Hello. My class is reading a novel called the hobbit. I am retelling the events that happened in the chapters one to five. Here it goes. In the hobbit there, obviously is a hobbit but he wasn’t like the other hobbits. His mother Belladonna Took was “one of the three remarkable daughters of old took.” Once in a while some of the Tooks would go on adventures. Belladonna took gave Bilbo his adventure side. One day Bilbo was outside smoking his pipe. He saw and elderly man and said “good morning.” The old man was Gandalf. Gandalf asked Bilbo If he wanted to go on an adventure during the conversation they had. Bilbo had said no and walked back inside of his house. Just then Gandalf scratched a symbol on Bilbo’s door. The next day there came a ring at his door. It was a dwarf. His name was Dwalin. Bilbo didn’t know this man and Dwalin just walked right in. eventually throughout the night 13 more dwarves came because of the sign on the door. Their names were Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Ori, Nori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bomber, and Thorin. Thorin was the most respectable dwarf there. They were having this big discussion about adventures. By the end of the night the dwarves were singing about this great adventure and gold and that kind of stuff. In the morning they left a note for Bilbo and Bilbo ran to the place they wanted him to-the dwarves that is-. There they set off for the mountains. They fought a troll and found 2 goblin killing swords. When they got there it started to rain really hard. Fili and Kili went to look for shelter and found a cave, (there are goblins on that mountain). They all went to sleep except Bilbo and the goblins attacked them and took them into the deep segments of the cave. When they got down the goblin king saw the swords and wanted to kill the adventurers Gandalf came and saved them. Bilbo got lost and tripped and got knocked out. When he awoke there was nothing but darkness. He found a ring and he started walking along the wall. He saw a Gollum and the Gollum said he would show Bilbo the way out if he could beat him in riddles. He won but the ring was Gollum’s and Bilbo wouldn’t give it back he eventually escaped the cave.
My thoughts and opinions about these chapters are all good ones. I liked the style of writing the author used because it adds lots of personality. In the beginning it says Bilbo has a book that he records everything in. I think this story could be that book. I think this because it has so many of dashes to explain things. Also I liked these chapters because he really puts an image into my mind, the way he describes theses things is magnificent he really lets you understand what the things look like. Another thing I like about Tolkien’s writing style is he never leaves anything out in his descriptions He even put that Bilbo had hairy toes to keep warm and leathery soles on the bottom of his feet so he doesn’t have to wear shoes. I love Tolkiens writing and I’m about to read more of his wonderful book so Bye for now.

Oh my!
Also, the part where Tolkien said that the dwarfs all kept marching in, spilling through the doorway each time Bilbo sat, the doorbell was rung and soon HEAPS were around him. I have to say, I also look forward to reading more of tolkiens superb writings in the future.
He is one of my favourites!! Surely.
Hello Scott I am Nadine from Australia and I am obviously a girl just so you know.
Anyway, as I read the title I was sucked in totally because guess what??? I have READ THIS BOOK AND TOTALLY agree with every word you wrote down. Trust me, Tolkien has written everything nicely and so descriptively, yes, his words place an image in your head. I was amazingly absorbed in his book.
Looks like SOMEONE finally has read this book as I have because I want someone to share their thoughts with me about the book and so you did and you did it beautifully.
Well done. Plus, I love how Gollum told him riddles and they passed it on, he reminded me of the guy in Lord of the Rings, that little mini monster. They were both pros at riddles, SO SMART!!!
Thanks for sharing
